| Conclusion | District 8 of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE) survived through 1955, but it met continual difficulties as its leadership was continually faced with accusations of subversion, and as the CIO targeted it for destruction. However, there were important legacies of both the style of struggle that had been engaged in, styles that were taken up by a nascent civil rights movement. Meanwhile, employers filled out the agenda of control that allowed them to create the political economy that workers faced without a vibrant radical voice of dissent capable of confronting it.
