Group I:
1. How did preparation
for war and war influence the way German women experienced marital status?
What factors do you consider the most important and why? Provide
examples from Elizabeth Heineman.
2. Discuss racism as
reflected in the gender discrimination of Nazi marital policy. Provide
examples of the differing treatment of men and women. What kinds
of behavior were labeled "asocial" and why? What implications did
this have for Nazi eugenic policy? Provide examples from Heineman.
Group II:
1. Which was the more
important component of Gad Beck's identity, that he was Jewish or that
he was gay? Why? Employ what you know about Nazi racial ideology
while providing specific examples from An Underground Life.
2. Discuss French women's collaboration with and resistance to the Nazis. How did they differ from male collaboration and resistance? Was French women's behavior in any way a response to the gendered nature of Nazi ideology? Provide examples from Hanna Diamond.
