The Illinois Council's current List of Workshops (not currently available).
The Office of Economic Education at Northern Illinois University, often referred to as the NIU Center, has the mission of improving the understanding of economics among elementary and secondary school students in Northern Illinois, in order that those students will become effective participants in the economy. Our primary means of carrying out this mission are to provide training and assistance in teaching economics to teachers at the kindergarten to 12th grade levels.
The Center offers the following forms of training and assistance:
Credit
and non-credit professional development programs that enable teachers
to
integrate economics into their lesson plans at any grade level.

Workshops
to introduce EconomicsAmerica
curriculum materials, other printed and virtual economic education
materials,
and assessment instruments to teachers and administrators.
Consultations
with school districts and individual schools that wish to incorporate
economic
education across the curriculum.
Support
for the statewide programs offered by the Illinois
Council on Economic Education, including but not limited to the Stock
Market Game, Poster Contest,
Teacher Awards,
and Economics
Challenge.
The Northern Illinois University Office of Economic Education has the responsibility for signing up schools in the northern counties of Illinois that would like to participate in the EconomicsAmerica economics education curriculum. Perhaps you'd like to sign up your school. Perhaps you've already signed up and you'd like some help from us. Send your inquiry to Stephen Karlson, the current director of Northern's Center.
We are always developing teacher workshops. Bookmark this site and check back here for specific announcements. Also coming will be a list of books and tapes available on loan.
