Two important elements will determine the success of your publication: time and money. Of the two, time is the more important. We specialize in turning out effective publications on a tight budget, but one can't cut back on the time a publication requires without affecting its ultimate impact. Depending on the complexity of the publication, it takes an average of six weeks to produce a publication, starting from the date we receive your original copy to the date the printed piece is delivered. Some very simple pieces may be done in as little as three weeks, while other projects may take as long as three months to complete. The publications office produces hundreds of publications every year and every one is a priority as far as the client is concerned. You will be sent a production schedule after the initial meeting and receipt of your original copy. The scheduling of your project is expedited if you make an appointment to meet with the publications staff first. Requests that come through the mail or that are dropped off without appointments are delayed while we call clients to get all the information we need to realistically schedule the project. All the time in the world is of little help however, unless you have enough money to produce the publication you need. The services offered by the publications office (consulting, editing, design, and production) are free to university clients. If an outside printer is used, the publications office will prepare printing specifications. You are responsible for taking the specifications and a budget request to the accounting office to begin the purchasing process as you would for other commodities. The purchasing office will request bids from a list of vendors with the eventual printer being the lowest acceptable bidder. The publications office can give you ballpark estimates to help you budget for your publication. |
