Contact the publications office as soon as possible in your planning process. If you delay you may find you have already missed some important deadlines or perhaps that your expectations exceed your anticipated budget. Call the publications office to schedule a meeting. Come prepared to talk about your target audience, the specifics of your product or service, your budget, any competitors you might have, other promotional efforts you are considering, and how you plan to measure the success of your project. You will meet with publications staff and we will try to learn as much as possible about your specific project. You need not have the original manuscript prepared when we first meet, but the job cannot really begin until we receive your copy. Once that happens your project will be scheduled for production. Priorities for publications have been set by the university and are included in the university's Procedures Manual. The five basic levels are: First--university publications important to the instructional mission (e.g. catalogs); Second--special publications for the president, vice presidents, and deans (e.g. reports to the Trustees); Third--university-wide publications (e.g. visitor's guide, commencement program); Fourth--departmental and other cost center publications (e.g. financial aid reports, recruitment brochures); Fifth-- individual publications (e.g., research reports). |
