MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Presidential Task Force on Asian Americans at Northern Illinois University is to aid the Asian American student body in achieving their maximum educational and cultural potential at Northern Illinois University.  

Constituted by President John E. La Tourette in the Summer of 1999, the President gave two main objectives to the Task Force.  

First, that the Task Force develop a "clear understanding of the Asian American student body, present and projected, its particular needs, and how the university might respond to the more immediate needs in terms of clearly identified outcomes such as higher retention and graduation rates."

Second, that the Task Force understand the "overall long-term cultural conditions which would contribute to building a stronger and more supportive community" for the Asian/Asian American student population.
