FORUM ON AA ISSUES AT NIU

The Task Force actively seeks to create environments in which Asian and Asian American students are able to speak frankly about issues which concern them. Some of these issues include:

Availability of minority scholarships/fellowships for Asian American students

Academic advisors and counseling staff dedicated to assisting Asian American students

More courses on Asian American cultures and experiences

Increased awareness and sensitivity to Asian cultures and heritage within the NIU community

More programs featuring Asian American speakers, musicians, films, etc.

More Asian food selections at campus food services

Additional orientation sessions for new Asian American students

A facility providing support services for Asian American students, faculty, and staff

Promotion of research and artistry focusing on Asian cultures and heritage

Additional mentoring programs for Asian American students

Opportunities to complete a minor in some aspect of Asian American studies

Additional efforts to recruit more Asian American faculty and administrators to NIU

Additional efforts to recruit more Asian American students to NIU

VOICE YOUR OPINION

The Task Force was specifically set up for the Asian American student and actively encourages these students to voice their concerns or ideas on improving the quality of life both socially and academically at NIU. If you have a concern, idea, or just want to voice your opinion, please do so. The Task Force wants to hear from you.
