Award Guidelines and Nomination Form -
2006
Each year
during the International Recognition Reception, the Division of International
Programs bestows the award for “Outstanding International Educator at
NIU.”
The
purpose of the "Outstanding International Educator at NIU" award:
The primary
purpose of this award is to recognize a NIU faculty or staff member who has,
over time, contributed significantly toward international education at NIU.
Conferring this
award also creates greater visibility and awareness of international education
at NIU.
Criteria
for selecting the award recipient:
The award
recipient should have made sustained contributions over time to the enhancement
of international education at NIU – through his/her teaching, research, public
service and student service efforts.
Recipients will have made a lasting contribution by a combination of such
efforts as:
§
Influencing
the internationalization of the curriculum;
§
Teaching
international courses or course with a substantial international content to
large numbers of students;
§
Active
and sustained involvement with NIU study abroad programs, in terms of teaching
courses abroad, advising students about study abroad, utilizing NIU students
who have studied abroad in their classes;
§
Active
and sustained involvement with international students at NIU, in terms of
advising and mentoring such students, hosting international students, working
with international student organizations; and/or assisting the International
Student and Faculty Office in their work with international students;
§
Active
and sustained involvement with international exchanges;
§
Active
and sustained international research efforts;
§
Regularly
hosting international visitors and scholars;
§
Active
and sustained contributions toward multicultural understanding.
Staff members of
the Division of International Programs are not eligible for this award.
The
process for selecting the award recipient and conferring the award:
The committee
that will select the award recipient shall consist of: the Director of the Faculty Development and
Nominations
(including self nominations) will be solicited from the Council of Deans,
department chairs and all regular faculty and staff members.
The deadline
for submitting nominations will be FRIDAY,
OCTOBER 20, 2006

Statements
from nominees on how they have fulfilled the criteria and their curriculum
vitae should accompany the nomination.

The
Selection Committee will make a selection before the beginning of International
Week, November 13 - 18, 2006.
The award
nominees will be invited to the International Recognition Reception, where the
award will be announced. The recipient
will receive a plaque that will be presented by the Executive Vice President
and Provost or designee, along with a citation that summarizes the
contributions that were made.
