Your faculty leader is C. Daniel Dillman , Ph.D., University
of Michigan, Distinguished Teaching Professor, Department of Geography at Northern
Illinois University. He is the undergraduate advisor for the Department of
Geography and the coordinator for the International Studies minor. Professor
Dillman has led trips for NIU to Oaxaca, Portugal, Morocco and Italy. His expertise
in cultural landscape geography will add to your understanding of France today.
The University Honors Program recently awarded Professor Dillman the Great
Professor Award.
Research Emphasis: United States and Canada,
Latin America, and Political Geography
Specific Research Endeavors:
Previous research focused on jet streams; spatial interaction in the United
States-Mexico border zone, emphasizing twin city relationships; problems
of land tenure in Latin America with special emphasis in Brazil; and the
use of literature in regional analysis.
Current and future investigations involve regionalism in Canada, particularly
its political expression; conflict areas of global concern in the absence of
bipolar power structure; place identity and the cultural landscape.
