combine affordability with top notch education, and allow you to become
a "traveller" rather than a tourist. You return with a wealth of experience
and knowledge not provided by your average trip/vacation. Or, to put it

| Who joins NIU study tours? | NIU International Programs | Universal Currency Converter | Exchange rates for 179 countries| Who joins NIU's "Travel with a Professor"? Individuals interested often ask, "Who will be joining this trip? What are the ages of the group members?" I (the graduate assistant, writing intern of External Programming) joined the December, Study trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, and with a little help from my photos and a lot of help from my memories, I can tell you exactly who joins these study tours! On each trip, one or more professors accompany the group. In Oaxaca, NIU anthropology professor, Winifred Creamer, and her husband, the McArthur Curator of North American Anthropology at the Field Museum in Chicago, Jonathan Haas, both shared their knowledge about the Zapotec and Mixtec Indian cultures with the group. The director of NIU's Liberal Arts and Sciences External Programming, Steven Johnson, also joins each group, making hotel accommodations, travel arrangements, and generally ensuring that all runs smoothly. Winifred's parents, from New York, joined the trip. Our 83-year-old group member shared his own knowledge of Oaxaca, having fallen in love with the city when he first visited it in 1967. I am a graduate student (23 years old) in NIU's English department, and I brought along my mom (who is almost 50). Two married couples (about 55 - 65 years old) joined this Study Trip to Oaxaca--one of these couples had never been out of the United States before, and the other has traveled all over the world! Finally, five single women came along--one college student, one single mother, one retired NIU dean, and two others who have enjoyed many different NIU programs! NIU Study tours usually have room for about 20 members. They
fill up fast, so register early! And, remember, the tours are enlightening
for college students, business men and women, retired couples, those who
travel often and those who have never traveled before, professors, mothers
and fathers, children and family, but most importantly, for anyone who
desires to be a life-long learner!
To register for any of these trips, call 1-800-345-9472 or 815-753-0277. Space is limited in each program, so early registration is advised. For more information call our "Travel with the Professor" hotline at: 815-753-5200. |
