Fundamentals of Technical Communication

•    3 semester-hour credits (undergraduate or graduate credit) or 4 CEUs offered through Northern Illinois University, in affiliation with the Chicago Chapter STC Institute for Professional Development.

•    Fundamentals of Technical Communication is being offered for undergraduate or graduate credit under English 424, Sec CE1 (reference number 9085) and English 524, Sec CE1 (reference number 9086)

Course Description

ENGL 424:  TOPICS IN TECHNICAL WRITING  (3)  Studies in selected topics of special interest to students, teachers, and practitioners of written technical communication.  May be repeated to a maximum of 6 semester hours when topic varies.

Cosponsored by the Society for Technical Communication, this course will provide opportunities for students to work with mentors from business and industry on practical projects.  Topics include principles of document design, design solutions for moving from print to online media, and then best practices for professional success.  Although the course does not meet in a computer lab, students are expected to have email accounts and to use computers for course work.  Once enrolled, students should contact Professor Philip Eubanks at eubanks1@niu.edu to receive pre-course materials.
NIU-Naperville, meets 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., seven Saturdays:  March 1, March 8, March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12, and April 26.  Taught by Philip Eubanks and professional mentors.
