NEW IDEAS
"Exposing Old Lies with New Truths:
Abraham Lincoln, Emancipation and Lingering Racism"

Holmes Student Center, DeKalb, Ilinois
Friday, October 4, 2002, 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This one-day professional development conference is for teachers interested in enhancing their knowledge of United States and Illinois history and in renewing their enthusiasm for teaching. Often old lies and misconceptions are exposed by delving behind public images or looking at primary sources in new ways. Reviewing primary sources - such as local "sundown" laws in various northern Illinois towns- sometimes turns up uncomfortable realities.
