What are the goals of the camp?The world of mathematics is more diverse and beautiful than the standard material covered in textbooks and regular courses. We wish to expose campers to many new and exciting branches of mathematics.
What will we do all day?Challenge "Problem of the Day," hands-on technology demonstrations, workshops, games and competitions (with prizes!), movies. In addition, daily talks will be given by members of the NIU faculty and guest speakers from outside the university. A sample of possible topics:
Who is the Camp Director?Richard Blecksmith has been camp Director since the inception of the program. He is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Northern Illinois University and has been at NIU since 1984. He has published several articles in the American Mathematical Monthly. His areas of interest are number theory, computing, and combinatorics. He is also secretary of the Number Theory Foundation.
What does it cost?The fees are $450 if you register by 6/1 and $475 after that date. Returning campers receive a $25 discount. A deposit of $100 is required.
