The ultimate goal of the Office of Publications is to make sure that Northern Illinois University is perceived in print to be the outstanding teaching and research university it is in reality. As established in the University Procedures, the publications office is responsible for the image of the university communicated through the nearly 800 official publications printed each year. All publications that carry the Northern Illinois University name and logo, that are printed with university funds, and communicate with prospective or currently enrolled students or other outside audiences are produced by the publications office. Not included in this category are instructional or advising materials, forms for internal use, or publications paid for by student fees or non-university funds.

In order to support the very different requirements of the many offices and departments on campus that require publications, the publications office is designed on the model of a full-service advertising agency. Some clients may require the wide range of creative and technical services we offer, while others with less complex communication problems may only require the services of a single area within the office.

Regardless of a scope of a problem, if it involves communicating through print our job is to help solve it. In doing so we consider the legitimate image concerns of the university, your particular goals and objectives, as well as the constraints of time and budget.
