NIU Foundation announces the Elizabeth Allen Visiting Art Scholars Endowment The Elizabeth Allen Visiting Art Scholars Endowment will financially support an on-going Visiting Scholars Program in the Art History Division of the School of Art. The Visiting Scholars Program is designed to create a vibrant scholarly environment by increasing the access of students and faculty to innovative examples of art history scholarship through a regular series of public lectures, seminars, class lectures, or other specialized activities, delivered by visiting art scholars of national, international and regional prominence. The Art History Visiting Scholars Endowment will allow NIU to present art history scholars each semester including a major scholar of national or international reputation, as well as two to three scholars with regional reputations and/or specialized expertise. This endowment fund has been established by Elizabeth Plotnick (nee Allen), a 1977 alumna of Northern Illinois Universitys art history program. Elected to the board of the NIU Foundation Board of Directors in September 2000, Mrs. Plotnick is a devotee of the arts who continuously seeks to enhance her own knowledge of the eastern and western arts, and to share that knowledge with others. She has chosen to endow the Art History Visiting Scholars Program to share her ideals regarding the value of the study of art history, and to broaden and raise the level of scholarship to which NIU students and faculty are regularly exposed. The Elizabeth Allen Visiting Art Scholars Endowment has been established through a $162,000 pledge. For more information, contact the NIU Foundation at 753-0782. |
