Yordon Center Timeline
April 2005
Public campaign launches with $5.1million in commitments toward the $7 million minimum goal.
November 2005
NIU successfully hits $7 million minimum goal to proceed with Yordon Center construction planning.
December 2005/January 2006
A comprehensive and detailed analysis was conducted with all units that have a direct stake in the Yordon Center (sport programs, strength, speed, and conditioning, athletic training, student-athlete support services, etc). This resulted in significant improvements to the building.
February 2006
After detailed analysis and design revisions were completed, the project went to bid.
March 2006
Pepper Construction Company is selected as the general contractor. Value engineering work occurs with architect and contractor to identify potential savings which would not compromise functionality of the building. Contractor bids exceeded rough preliminary estimates from the previous year.
April 2006
Preliminary site work begins. Public phase of the campaign continues forward with strong momentum, with the sale of tiles, lockers, and other naming opportunities. To date, $7.4 million has been raised for the project.
June 2006
Building construction begins.
August 2007
Yordon Center OPENS!
