The Contract Archaeology
Program
The
CAP has been serving northern Illinois for over a decade by conducting
cultural resource assessments for private and governmental planning
agencies so that they can readily comply with state and federal
regulations regarding the treatment of archaeological remains. The
program employs a full-time staff of professional archaeologists
who identify, evaluate, and excavate sites threatened by modern
development. Field projects are conducted during spring, summer,
and fall; laboratory work and analysis occupies most of the winter.
The CAP offers
archaeological opportunities to interested students who can do field
and laboratory work under the guidance of experienced supervisors.
Research collections from many Illinois archaeological sites are
curated by the CAP and are available for course work and research
projects. The program cooperates with interested groups to provide
public speakers and opportunities to visit archaeological sites
during excavation.
