GENDER OR GENDERLESS?
Gender is the socially constructed grouping of the biological associations of male and female.
What is the relationship between gender and cyberspace? Cyberspace allows an individual to escape the associations that are attached to the physical being and allows for a subjective experience of gender. Let us explore the idea of a subjective experience in the MOOS and MUDS. In these rooms, the user has the opportunity to manipulate identity without the limitations that are imposed by the body. In a sense, gender is like motion and becomes perpetual; never fixed and always changing. What are the limitations to this experience? Although there is a masquerade of identity in cyberspace, individual ideological limitations still exist. Socially and culturally ideas about gender will direct the experience. An individual can only experience gender as gender is perceived.
