This technology is used to increase the efficiency of the organization. They can usually be found in the form of tangible databases and systems (i.e. inventory, manufacturing, and customer-support systems). Three of the most interesting to be on the lookout for are: electronic data interchange, automated customer-response systems, and virtual reality sales. Electronic data interchange (EDI) is used by retailers as a link to their suppliers. It used in many manufacturing companies today which utilize the just-in-time method of inventory replenishment. This process is helpful in saving a corporation millions of dollars in reduced overhead costs and potential downtime from inventory shortages.

Automated customer-response systems will also be more readily available in the future. Currently, this type of system is used in voice mail and automated call answering systems, which transfer the customer's call to the correct department. Changes are underway to devise a system that will have the capacity to answer customer phone call and to take orders.

Virtual reality sales technology will definitely benefit the sales industry. Customers will be able to sample a new home or vacation site all without ever leaving the home (Thach and Woodman 1993).
