Individual work support technologies are used in accomplishing daily tasks more efficiently. The pioneer of such technologies is called the high bandwidth portable computer. It will be more powerful than the portable computers of today. This computer will have the ability to connect to any computer network around the world at any time and in any place, via an international, wireless, wide-band communication network. In essence, this will allow the individual user to be completely mobile. Some of the benefits of such complex technology, saves employees the time of trying to locate a phone jack.
A special feature of this new age computer will be the offering of a "knowbot."
A knowbot serves the function of a personal secretary within the computer and is programmed to sort e-mail messages into categories as pre-determined by the user, read journal articles, highlight important areas, and file them; and inspect and understand information from various networks regardless of language or form (Thach and Woodman 1993).
