Internship Profiles

Kelli Lyon

Intern Kelli Lyon transformed her job at the Junction Bookstore into a fascinating publishing internship. Kelli's duties include training new employees, writing book reviews, programming the store's computers, and writing a community newsletter. As a publications intern, Kelli has learned about book publishing and book marketing, two areas she finds interesting.

According to Kelli, her English degree has helped her immensely. She credits her English background and her love of books with helping her write book reviews. She also finds that good communication skills have helped her succeed in her internship. Kelli says, "I believe that my internship has provided me with valuable experience." She adds that internships are a great tool for learning and suggests students should try to get as much working experience as possible before they graduate. Kelli recently secured a job with Northern Illinois University Press and credits her internship with helping her get that job.
