An NIU documentary originally produced in the Department of Communication Professor Jeffrey Chown's class, tugs Untied won top honors at the Arizone International Film Festival. Michael Lahey, Dan Zimny and Phil Dalton created "Tugs Untied", an account of the annual tug-of-war between NIU fraternities in 1996.

This 32 min. vvideo documentary was made by James Macon while James was a graduate student in the Department of Communication. "Wade in the Water" features interviews with local historians, period music and re-enactments. It premiered before an audience of 1200 in Sycamore, IL.

 

Winner of the Historical Documentary prize in the 2003 Reality Bytes Festival, "Kaneville" tells the story of life in a small midwest town. The documentary was written and directed by Brad Manley and Matt Kneller and features an original score by Kneller.

 

"Doing it in Cow Time" won an award in the category of Bio/autobiographical. This delightful documentary short told the story of how one man's life changed when he moved to a farm.

"The Grinkeeper" also won in the category of Bio/autobiographical in 2003. This quirky tale of the year-round haunted house was made by Lynette Kleisner and brought the ghosts of the Raven's Grinn Inn to life.
